How bidding works

Start on the Auctions page or open a gem from the home page. Listings stay open for bidding while the gem is listed, visible to the public, and the auction end time has not passed.

You need a Gemazaar account before you can bid or use Buy Now. If you are not signed in, the listing shows Sign in to Bid instead of the bid form.

Before your first bid, save a working mobile number in Profile. The platform requires this so a seller can contact you if you win. Until your number is saved, the bid panel stays disabled and prompts you to add it.

On the auction page, the bid panel shows the current highest bid or the starting bid, how many bids have been placed, and whether the auction is still live. When the auction has ended or the gem is already sold, bidding and Buy Now are no longer available.

Type your bid in the listing currency. Your bid must be at least one unit above the current highest bid, or at least the starting price if no bids exist yet. LKR auctions accept whole numbers only. If a bid looks unusually high compared with the starting price, the platform asks you to confirm the amount before continuing.

Click Place Bid to submit a binding offer. By doing so you agree to the Terms & Conditions, confirm you have a working mobile number for the seller, and accept that Gemazaar is a third-party platform that does not own, value, or insure listings and does not handle payments.

After you bid, the listing refreshes with live bid activity. The bid history shows recent bids, with the highest bid highlighted at the top. If a bid cannot be saved, the listing shows the error returned by the platform.

Some listings include a Buy Now price. You can expand that section on the listing to purchase immediately at the listed price instead of waiting for the auction clock. Buy Now also requires sign-in, a saved mobile number, and acceptance of the same terms. The platform records the sale and the listing moves to sold.

When the auction ends, the highest bidder is shown as the winner on the listing. The winning buyer and the seller can then see each other's name, email, and mobile number on the listing page so they can continue privately.

Gemazaar does not arrange meetings, inspections, payment, customs paperwork, or shipping. Those steps are agreed directly between buyer and seller. Read the seller's listing details, returns policy, and shipping notes before you bid.
